PTE
The Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) is one of the fastest-growing English language proficiency tests accepted worldwide for study, work, and migration purposes. Recognized by thousands of universities, colleges, governments, and professional bodies—including those in popular destinations like Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, the UK, and European countries—PTE has become a trusted alternative to IELTS and TOEFL. Its popularity continues to rise because of its computer-based format, quick result delivery, and objective scoring system.
The PTE Academic test evaluates the four essential language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Unlike IELTS, the Speaking section is not conducted face-to-face with an examiner but instead recorded on a computer, making the test fully automated and unbiased. The test lasts for about two hours and is divided into three main parts. The first part is Speaking and Writing (54–67 minutes), which includes tasks such as personal introduction, reading aloud, repeating sentences, describing images, re-telling lectures, answering short questions, and essay writing. The second part is Reading (29–30 minutes), where candidates solve multiple-choice questions, re-order paragraphs, and fill in blanks. The final part is Listening (30–43 minutes), which involves summarizing spoken texts, multiple-choice questions, filling in blanks, highlighting correct summaries, and writing from dictation.
PTE Academic uses an AI-powered scoring system that ensures fairness and consistency. Scores are reported on a scale of 10 to 90 points, with separate scores for each communicative skill (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking). A score of 65 is generally considered equivalent to IELTS Band 7, while a score of 50 corresponds roughly to IELTS Band 6. Most universities require an overall score between 55 and 65, though highly competitive programs may ask for 70 or higher. For visa purposes, countries like Australia and New Zealand officially accept PTE scores for student visas, skilled migration, and permanent residency applications.
Another advantage of PTE is its flexibility and convenience. The test is conducted at secure test centers in Nepal—primarily in Kathmandu and other major cities—and is available on multiple dates every month. Since the test is entirely computer-based, results are usually available within 24 to 48 hours, making it the fastest option for students who need quick score reporting for university or visa applications.
